House Energy & Commerce Ranking Member Frank Pallone (D-N.J.) requested information from six certified independent dispute resolution entities seeking details on how each company conducts arbitration and compliance with the No Surprises Act (NSA). He expressed concern that the Independent Dispute Resolution (IDR) process is not functioning as intended and is resulting in increased out-of-pocket expenses and premiums for patients. The number of NSA-related provider-insurer disputes going to arbitration has far exceeded initial predictions, and these entities earn revenue for each dispute they resolve. The companies were given until Sept. 24 to respond.
