NBME for OMS Applicants

Beginning in 2027, AAOMS will offer the National Board of Medical Examiners Comprehensive Basic Science Examination (NBME) in May and November (instead of February and July).

This change will help minimize the scheduling conflicts dental student applicants sometimes face because of offerings of other organizations.

The exam is open to all dental students interested in applying to oral and maxillofacial surgery residencies and allows applicants to measure their understanding of basic science. After completion, applicants will receive an electronic score report from National Board of Medical Examiners within 30 days. A copy of the score report also will be provided to AAOMS..

Register for the Exam

Registration for the May 2027 exam will open by early November.

*All accommodation requests must be submitted to [email protected] by the registration deadline.
