OMSs are among the few dental specialists who widely participate not only with private dental insurers, but also with private medical insurers, as well as with public dental insurance through Medicare and Medicaid. AAOMS helps its members navigate the challenges of billing, coding and reimbursement by advocating at federal and state levels to establish a more equitable playing field with insurers, working with regulatory bodies to ensure the OMS perspective is considered in healthcare reform, providing education and resources on medical and dental billing and reimbursement and meeting with insurers to address pervasive issues for OMSs.
