Gov. Tony Evers (D) signed on Jan. 31 several pieces of legislation affecting dentistry. First, he signed AB 62, which allows individuals to assign their dental benefits directly to a provider and requires the payer to directly pay the provider the amount of the claim. Insurers are allowed to require this assignment to be documented in writing.
Gov. Evers also signed SB 689, a bill establishing dental therapists in the state; SB 692, a bill adding Wisconsin to the CSG Dental Licensure Compact; and SB 706, a bill enhancing the state’s scholarship program to incentivize dental professionals to work in rural areas.
All of the bills were negotiated by the Wisconsin Dental Association.
