Following the advocacy efforts of the North Dakota Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and AAOMS, the North Dakota Board of Dental Examiners modified their administrative processes to implement an existing rule more fully to allow non-dental assistants (such as RNs and EMTs) to qualify for dental anesthesia assisting permits in the state.
Previously, the state required an auxiliary to complete formal training as a Registered Dental Assistant before being eligible for the credential. While the Board will be making formal changes to its regulations to further clarify the process, individuals meeting the state’s other current education and certification criteria may now take advantage of this pathway.
Necessary forms have been updated to reflect this process and any questions should be directed to the N.D. Board of Dental Examiners.
