The Director of the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Jay Bhattacharya, has been tapped to serve temporarily as acting head of the CDC. He becomes the third CDC leader during the second Trump administration. Jim O’Neill had filled the role since August but recently departed and is expected to be nominated to lead the National Science Foundation. O’Neill previously succeeded Susan Monarez, who was dismissed by HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. after less than a month.
