Seven states (Iowa, Kansas, Maine, Tennessee, Virginia, Washington and Wisconsin) passed legislation to join the Council on State Governments (CSG) Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact. Having met the minimum number of states needed for the CSG Compact to take effect, the states will now work on forming the administrative body in charge of the Compact and developing regulations for implementation.
As a reminder, the CSG Dentist and Dental Hygienist Compact only applies to basic dental licensure. It does not address issues such as specialty licensure, anesthesia permitting or scope of practice, whose authority is retained by the individual states. Additional information on the process is available at DDHCompact.org.
