AAOMS-led student loan bill introduced in Senate

The Resident Education Deferred Interest (REDI) Act (S 3658) was introduced for the first time in the Senate Feb. 16 by Senators Jacky Rosen (D-Nev.) and John Boozman (R-Ark.). This Senate companion bill joins the House version (HR 4122), introduced last summer by Reps. Brian Babin (R-Texas) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.), showing support in both chambers of Congress and in both parties for student loan reform.

The bill would allow for a pause on student loan interest accrual and principal loan repayment for medical and dental students while serving in their residencies or internships.

AAOMS sent letters of appreciation to Sens. Rosen and Boozman and organized a coalition support letter that included 39 physician and dentist organizations.
