In anticipation of the COVID-19 moratorium on student loan payments and interest being lifted at the end of the summer, AAOMS is leading a coalition of medical and dental providers to encourage Congress to focus on providing student debt relief, most notably by enacting solutions such as the REDI Act (S 704/HR 1202). If enacted, the REDI Act would allow physicians and dentists to defer their federal student loans interest-free while in residency, saving them tens of thousands of dollars on their loan balance. The coalition recently sent a letter to Senate Health, Education, Labor and Pensions (HELP) Committee leaders – Sens. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) and Bill Cassidy, MD (R-La.) – to encourage the committee to prioritize the REDI Act.
Do your part to promote this effort by asking your members of Congress to support the REDI Act through the AAOMS VoterVoice platform.
