ROSEMONT, Ill. – A. Thomas Indresano, DMD, FACS, began his term as the 101st president of the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS) during its Annual Meeting in October in Chicago.

Indresano – alongside AAOMS’s other officers and the Board of Trustees – assumes leadership for 2018-19 of the professional organization representing more than 9,000 oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Indresano, of Naperville, Ill., served as President-Elect this past year and Vice President the previous year.

Before he retired as endowed professor and chair of oral and maxillofacial surgery at the University of Pacific’s Arthur A. He represented OMSs from nine states as the District VI Trustee on the AAOMS Board of Trustees for four years.

“I stand ready to begin my presidency after 100 great years of our organization,” Indresano said. “We have traveled so far and achieved so much for this specialty. We have forged new paths and met challenges in the world of healthcare. I look forward to another year of outstanding achievements.”

In 2016, Indresano was a member of the first class of single-degree OMSs inducted as fellows of the American College of Surgeons, the world’s largest surgical organization. He received the Donald B. Osbon Award for an Outstanding Educator from AAOMS in 2005, and he was an examiner for the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery for six years and past president of the California, Great Lakes and Ohio societies of oral and maxillofacial surgeons. Indresano received his doctor of dental medicine degree from Harvard University and his training in OMS from Vanderbilt University. He succeeds Brett L.
