Oklahoma Gov. Kevin Stitt (R) allowed SB 669 – a dental practice act clean-up bill – to become law without his signature. Introduced at the request of the state dental board, the legislation eliminates the existing OMS assistant permit and creates a new OMS expanded duty permit, aligning it with permits for other expanded function dental auxiliaries (EFDAs).
All current requirements for OMS assistants, including DAANCE accreditation and CE requirements, remain unchanged. The Oklahoma Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons played an active role in shaping the language.
Additional information, including implementation procedures for the revised permit, will be available via the Oklahoma Board of Dentistry.
