Oral and maxillofacial surgeons (OMSs) are among the healthcare providers who administer and prescribe essential drugs daily. OMSs have experienced shortages of the following pharmacologics in recent years: anesthetics, analgesics, antibiotics, antiemetics, emergency medications and saline. Despite efforts by the federal government to address drug shortages, they still persist. It remains an AAOMS priority to urge Congress and the appropriate regulatory agencies to effectively address the issue.
