AAOMS subcommittee honored for advancing dental implant education

January 15, 2018

ROSEMONT, Ill. – A group of six doctors was recognized in December for their work to develop years of high-quality dental implant educational sessions for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (AAOMS).

The Association’s Board of Trustees presented its Special Citation Award to the AAOMS Subcommittee on Dental Implant Education during the 25th annual Dental Implant Conference, held Dec. 1 to 3 in Chicago.

The subcommittee planned 2017 session topics ranging from replacing congenital missing teeth to applying digital technology in practices. The Conference featured a renowned faculty of more than 30 experts presenting to more than 1,000 OMSs, their staff and restorative dentists in didactic sessions and hands-on workshops.

The subcommittee also plans dental implant sessions for the AAOMS Annual Meeting, Scientific Sessions and Exhibition – the largest and most comprehensive educational conference in the world developed exclusively for oral and maxillofacial surgeons and their staff.

The subcommittee members include:

  • Michael S. Block, DMD, of Metairie, La.
  • Bach T. Le, DDS, MD, of Whittier, Calif.
  • Jay P. Malmquist, DMD, of Portland, Ore.
  • Richard J. Martin, DDS, of Dallas, Texas
  • Craig M. Misch, DDS, MDS, of Sarasota, Fla.
  • Peter K. Moy, DMD, of Los Angeles, Calif.

“AAOMS is honored to have such a dedicated group leading our dental implant education,” said AAOMS Immediate Past President Douglas W. Fain, DDS, MD, FACS. “Their diligent work sets standards of excellence in education and training for OMSs and their restorative teams. The subcommittee continues to preserve and advance the specialty and patient care.”

Dr. Block has chaired the subcommittee since its inception after he expressed interest in advancing dental implant education to the AAOMS Board of Trustees. Five members have been on the subcommittee for at least 10 years. The subcommittee reports to the AAOMS Committee on Continuing Education and Professional Development.
